Artist Infomation

"그의 작품의 특질을 한마디로 요약한다면 갈필과 갈색에의 신앙이라고 할 수 있다. 그는 한국의 풍토적, 문화적 특질을 이와 같은 갈필과 갈색으로 결론지었다." 이경성(미술평론가)

소정 변관식은 구한말의 화가인 소림 조석진(小林趙錫晋, 1853-1920)의 손자로 청전 이상범과 함께 한국적인 근대화풍을 구축한 인물이다. 조선 전통회화의 맥을 이으면서도 개성 넘치는 필치를 보여준 소정은 풍토미를 담은 작품을 선보이며 한국적 특질에 맞는 양식을 완성시켰다. 소정의 산수화는 크게 금강산을 비롯한 실경 산수(實景山水)와 농촌의 전가 풍경(田家風景), 그리고 도화유수(桃花流水) 류의 이상향 등을 주제로 한다. 더불어 그는 역동적인 구도와 다양한 시점, 파묵과 갈필로 엮어가는 기법의 ‘소정 화법(小亭畵法)’을 완성시켰으며, 특히 금강산의 실경을 담은 작품에서는 그만의 표현방식을 읽어낼 수 있다. 금강산의 경관을 화폭에 담아 인간과 자연을 어울리게 하고 동시에 구체적인 현장감을 자아내는 그의 작품성은 완숙기인 1950년대의 작품에서 드러나 산수의 재해석을 도모한 작가만의 감각을 발견할 수 있다.

Luxury goods and musical instruments must be collected in person.
